About Me

My photo
Hi, my name is Kayla. I have a dual B.A. in Communication Studies & English from the University of Michigan, and I currently work for a Broadcast PR Firm in New York City. I blog about anything that interests me and that others may be remotely interested in. I wouldn't characterize myself as an expert at any one thing in particular, but rather as a somewhat well-rounded individual that tries to keep on top of current pop culture trends as much as possible. I also love to shop, read, and watch movies, so you'll see a lot of style alerts as well as film and novel reviews. And if you're wondering what my blog title means, venerating means to hold praise or admiration for something, and dernier cri is French for "the latest fashion."

I Spy: The Look for Less!

I absolutely love finding articles of clothing that look very similar to designer duds for a fraction of the price. No one should have to have a ton of money to look good and dress in style. Here's my fav find of the week:

Chanel - Black and White Fantasy Tweed Jacket (on the left)- "discounted" price on Rue La La $2,199.00

Express - Metallic Sweater Jacket (on the right) - $69.90

Loooooves it. I love Chanel's classic style, and this Express sweater jacket screams Chanel. I actually tried it on myself at Express and it's well made. There's a lot of detail on it, which makes the $69.90 price tag seem like a steal. I may have to buy it... :)

While I'm Chanel loving, I'd also like to show these amazing boots of theirs I also saw on Rue La La for $699. They are already sold out, which doesn't surprise me considering how cute they are!

My Style According to Madewell

I love J.Crew, so when I received one of their daily emails about checking out a new clothing website with a J.Crewesque flair, Madewell.com, I decided to check it out. I entered a Madewell shopping spree contest (cross my fingers that I win ;), and at the end I filled out a brief questionnaire that told me my style based on my answers. Apparently my style is "Understated Glam." It said,

"Your keen eye and cool aesthetic define your elegantly edgy style. And when it comes to denim you're all about simple and sleek, so try a pair of our skinny ankle jeans - they're super-slim and perfectly streamlined."

I suppose I can concur with that answer. I like to take smart risks with my outfits, meaning I go for the dernier cri, but I find the line between stylish and faddish so that I don't waste my money buying something I think that is really hip at the time but then can't wear a few months later when it goes out of style.

After doing some browsing online I decided to do some in-store browsing. I hit up the J.Crew in a nearby outlet mall, and I had so much fun shopping by myself! They had a super sweet sale going on too, which made my shopping even more pleasant. I bought a peach-colored sequined tank top with a matching white and peach stripped light-weight sweater (perfect for a breezy summer night) as well as a cute work skirt and a cotton multicolored scarf all for $100! If that isn't bargain shopping then I don't know what is. Ahh yes, I love my J.Crew style. Although Madewell.com is somewhat similar, I have a feeling that I'm going to remain a loyal customer to clothes supporting the J.Crew tag.

BGBG Maxazria Summer Sale in Stores

I was giddy when I received a postcard in the mail about a BCBG Maxazria Summer presale at Macy's from June 13-16. I immediately hopped online to check out their current merchandise so I would have an idea of some of the potential things I might want to look for and consider buying when I go to the mall. Below are a few things that caught my eye.

Strapless Cocktail Dress $358
There are a plethora of dresses I would love to own from BCBG, but for some reason I really like this one. It's simple while also being fun and flirty.
Basic Straw Fedora $38
This Fedora is perfect for the Summer, and since it is a straw fedora, you can either dress it up or down. I'd probably wear this for a casual night out with friends.Turquoise-stone Earrings $68
I love turquoise jewelry. I used to have a turquoise ring purchased during a trip to Mexico, but due to unfortunate events with a vacuum, that ring is no longer in one piece. Therefore, I am always keeping my eyes open in search of cool new turquoise pieces to fill the void I feel towards my destroyed ring.

Linen Cross-Body Bag $128
This small purse is probably my favorite pick. Cross-body bags are really in this season, and I have yet to own one. I think it would be perfect for a night out on the town. It isn't too fancy since it's linen, but it can still be worn with a dress.

Also, when I was browsing BCBG online I stumbled upon this red strapless layered-panel dress marked down from $260 to $182, and it looks exactly like my bridesmaid dress I recently wore to a wedding except mine was by Adrianna Papell and it was on sale for only $75! Wooh Hoo, I love bargain deals for cute, stylish dresses. Good dress pick Becca!
